BUS

BUS — The island’s public transportation system consists solely of independent, privately owned minivans — an inexpensive and efficient means of transportation used primarily by locals. Such minivans are a good way to travel between Castries and the Rodney Bay area. Fares in the north range from EC$1.50 to EC$2.50 (ideally payable in local currency), but one can also travel to Vieux Fort or Soufrière (two-plus hours, EC$8). Prospective passengers wait at a marked stop and hail the passing minivan. Assuming the minivan has space, the driver will pull over and pick you up. Once on board, advise the driver of your destination, and he’ll stop at the appropriate place. Such minivans are also distinguishable, since they have green license plates (as opposed to taxis – which have a blue or red one).
