La Place Carenage
La Place Carenage (Jeremie Street, Castries) — on the south side of Castries harbor near the pier and markets, is this duty-free shopping complex with a dozen or more shops, a (coffee) café, and an Internet café (Netcom). Jewelers like Harry Edwards Jewelers, and Diamonds International have a large presence here.
In order for visitors (such as cruise ship passengers) to take advantage of duty-free shopping for items like local fashion and crafts, as well as for brand name electronics, tobacco and other merchandise, one just needs to show his/her passport and airline/cruise ship ticket.
La Place Carenage is also home to “Tea Time Jazz” where the normally tranquil atmosphere is turned inside out when jazz musicians take to the stage to rend the air with beautiful music.
